12MarBaby tigers…

Contrary to the title this really has nothing to do with baby tigers. I feel I needed to state that right off the bat.

Man this blogging thing is hard. Granted I’m just going through the paces right now, but it’s harder than I thought it would be to come up with things to say. Then I figured…what the hell, I’ll just blog that. Hah.

Photographically speaking I’m about one click away from ordering some wireless trigger’s for my flash, so I can really start playing with off the camera lighting using my flash. I wanted to hold out and pick up some pocket wizards, but when the final tally came in I opted to get th Canon 40D instead and just pick up t he cheap triggers. One can’t really beat $32 vs. $400 (give or take). The PW’s are getting cheaper and I take heart that if I get a few more paid side jobs I should be able to afford them.

Then of course comes the matter of getting that or getting a new lens. I think if push came to shove, I’d get the new lens. My friend Brandon has offered to buy my current camera off me once I get the new one..but I’m debating whether or not to keep it as a backup. I’m torn because I’d be able to pick-up a new lens with the money from that, and I’m not really sure that right now I’d need a backup camera…though one can never tell.

OPML has saved me time.

As I could be termed a novice in the finer details of the more ‘tuned’ and by this I mean most things under the hood, aspects of the web, I am pathetically happy that I’ve been able to pull from my feed reader a lovely file that saved me having to copy/paste links for my blogroll.

I have achieved final happiness with my theme, and how it’s setup. For the last few days I’ve been stressing about the look of everything. Again, primarily because I’m visually inclined and I just couldn’t see myself getting comfortable with this blog, and being committed to it if I didn’t have some form of satisfaction with the appearance. I didn’t want frills but I wanted something that allowed me to personalize a bit. Neoclassical has done that for me.

So yeah, I’ve got random rotator images with which I am very pleased. It was actually fun going through my old images and looking to see what I would be happy with as a header image. Surprisingly the ones I first envisioned didn’t work very well in that capacity, and pictures I hadn’t looked at in a long time (we’re talking since 2006 folks) started having mass appeal in that they were perfect.

Now I just have to setup my blogroll and a few other things, and move on from the oppression I was feeling while theme-hunting.

Messing with themes again. Decided on Neoclassical finally as opposed to the other two, because it’s a bit more updated than Conestogastreet, but still has the minimal simplicity I want/like. I just have to figure on the picture sizes and such, I’ll have to use something like highslide or just adjust the size of my flickr posts. However it goes it’s not something I wan to focus on right now. I’ll worry about it tomorrow, along with some additional personalization to the new theme.

Oh American Idol, why do I watch?

I don’t call and vote. I seldom watch any performers that aren’t my faves. I never watch the results show. But I can’t help watching the sickness happen on screen. Don’t get me wrong some of these people are good. Well pretty much all of them are damn site more vocally talented than myself, not to mention countless others. That’s why they’re on the show.

What kills me about Idol is the judges. I’m pretty sure that Paula is 100% on the sauce all the time. I’ve known some hard core addicts in my time, and every time she speaks on the show it’s nothing more than a pot tangent. I seriously wouldn’t be surprised to know she was backstage making bongs out of her coke cup. At this point I’m thinking she should just stop talking altogether, because it’s nothing short of painful.

04MarPoint 2.

Still messing with themes, but think I’ve settled on Conestogastreet I like the streamlined simplicity, but of course there’s a ton of things I want to change, which is natural really. At least I’ve got a baseline for what I want.

04MarPoint 1.

Searching for wordpress themes is a pain in the ass. This is not to say I’m not appreciative of the mass quantities of free themes available to me. It’s not to say I’m not appreciative that for the most part they’re easy to use. It’s just I’m a little annoyed with the whole theme search process.

I know it’s me being finicky as I feel like I can’t really start blogging until I’ve got the theme thing solved/taken care of. That’s just me being me, as I just realized that right now I’m putting appearance over content which lets face it, if the content is good then the appearance isn’t all that important. Mostly it’s because I visually reference things, so for me things must look good. it’s a gut imperative, that my own impatience is forcing me to by-pass. After all I created this blog for a reason, and why not document my trials and tribulations with getting everything to be how I want it to be. After all that is the point of blogging isn’t it. Documenting.

So…right now I’m using Hemingway Reloaded which will probably change about five times prior to my coming to a final decision on what I want to use, and how much personalization I can give it. I like the nice clean look of it, but it may not be all to my cup of tea.
